We were delighted to see so many of you take part in The Sunflower Challenge competitions this year. Throughout the summer we were inundated with beautiful sunflower paintings from children all over the country and pictures of some of you with your giant plants!
Who grew the tallest sunflower?
At the beginning of the challenge Russian Giant Sunflower seeds were provided by seed provider Thompson & Morgan and distributed by WaterAid and Nursery World to all Nurseries who wanted to take part and you haven’t disappointed! With flowers from one metre to over four metres you have brightened up gardens and window sills with lots of yellow.
See the sunflower whose nursery wins these special edition T-shirts.
The closing date for ‘Who can grow the tallest sunflower’ was 30 September 2004.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR WONDERFUL ENTRIES!
Who painted the best sunflower?
WaterAid and NDNA have been so impressed with the creative ideas taken up by Nurseries in previous years that this year we decided to launch an art competition to include everyone who doesn’t have naturally green fingers, but prefer to cover their fingers in green paint instead!
WaterAid received hundreds of paintings from all over the country and had a difficult decision on our polling day to choose who the prize of best painted sunflower would go to.
The winning painting receives a unique mural painted by our very own sunflower artist Sarah Shore whose artwork you can see all over this website.
