Who can take part? | Sponsor Forms | Promotional posters | If you need more seeds | How to promote your Nursery
To take part in the Sunflower Challenge all you need are some Sunflower seeds and this website.
The ‘Russian Giant’ Sunflower seeds were distributed with the March 11 issue of Nursery World ready for planting.
If you missed that issue, or didn’t receive any seeds then simply send an email to sunflowers@wateraid.org along with your name together with the name and address of the nursery. Your seeds should reach you within seven working days.
Once you have your seeds, simply plant them and pass around sponsor forms to all children who wish to take part.
Children can ask their friends and family to sponsor the growth of their sunflowers, maybe per centimetre or metre of growth.
The sponsor forms have been designed as a black and white word document to make them easy to print from any printer.
Simply print off or photocopy as many forms as you need.
While your seeds are growing – why not maintain the sunflower theme with some creative ideas within the nursery environment
In September, when your sunflowers have reached their full height, hold a Grand measuring day and arrange a celebratory ‘Sunflower yellow tea party’ in recognition of all your hard work. Invite friends and families, maybe local celebrities or your local MP – and don’t forget to let the local papers know!
After your measuring day, encourage children to collect in their sponsorship money and send it off to:
The Sunflower Challenge, WaterAid, Prince Consort House, 27-29 Albert Embankment, London, SE1 7UB
NB – remember to include the name and address of your nursery. If you want to enter the ‘Who can grow the tallest Sunflower’ competition don’t forget to include the height of your tallest sunflower and don’t forget that the closing date for this competition is Friday 25 September 2004.
Once you have sent your money into WaterAid – you can keep an eye out for the postman – as you will receive a special Sunflower Challenge certificate as a small thank you to all the children that took part.
