Sunflower power to help children in Africa

Big sunflowers

Children from … (name) nursery in … (town/village) will be out measuring just how tall their ‘giant’ sunflowers have grown on the … (date). To celebrate the final stage of the Sunflower Challenge, the green-fingered gardeners will enjoy a toddlers tea party.

“The children have been looking forward to this day all through the summer, eagerly waiting to see who has managed to grow the tallest flower, and to find out how much we will be sending to WaterAid to help fund their projects in Malawi,” says …….. (teacher’s name) of ….. (nursery).

The Sunflower Challenge, organised by WaterAid and National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA), promoted by Nursery World, is raising funds in support of WaterAid, the charity which provides safe water and sanitation for the world’s poorest people in Africa and Asia.

The sunflowers were planted outside by the children …(three?) months ago, and since then they have been busily collecting sponsorship for every centimetre the sunflower has grown.

    “……………………” (quote from child) says … year-old …… (name).

Millions of children around the world suffer greatly from a lack of clean drinking water and sanitation. WaterAid considers children to be important agents of change – in our projects overseas they play an active role and often teach their friends and families about good hygiene.
